RANCH NEWS
The big news at Hogar Infantil since our last newsletter is the change of Directors made at the end of this summer. After years of faithful service and a huge list of accomplishments, Carlos and Vicky Macias asked to be replaced. Carlos has several years left before he can retire as an educator. Doing the double duty of being ranch directors and teaching was taking a toll on him and it showed. Vicky completed an advanced degree last year and could take a job in the capitol city of Tuxtla Gutierrez. Their house there had been rented and they could get it back. In short, they wished to have a more “normal” life for themselves and their children.
Carlos will remain
active on the local
Patronato
or Board and continue to contribute to our home’s welfare. Everyone is full of
gratitude for all that they have
done.
After much deliberation the Patronato, chose Prof. Rene Garica Martinez to be the new director. Rene is far from new to Hogar. Like most of the local Board, he grew up there. His mother died when he was four and his father couldn’t take care of nine children. When the ranch founder, Nich Anderson, died in 1977, Rene was one of three older boys that took over managing the home, assuming responsibility for the primary and kinder children and accounting. Two years later he graduated from Normal school and took a teaching job in the nearby state of Tabasco.
In 1982 he married Profesora Julia Cuellon Mendaza from Tampico. The next year they moved back to Chiapas and started a family. They have two sons and two daughters. Javier Alejandro (24) is studying Topographic Engineering. Edgar Gerardo (19) studies gastronomy. Julia Guadalupe is eight and is in the third grade. Little Maricruz, a first grader, is six.
Rene and Julia are still teachers, but Rene only has two more years until retirement. Hopefully he can endure having two jobs for a couple of years. He has served on the Patronato for many years and understands the challenges. Like all the people who have grown up at Hogar Infantil he shares the passion for seeing to the future of the less fortunate.
