OUR KIDS
Armando continued...
The nearest secundaria is 10 kilometers away from his village, which
is not a problem for a family with a car or access to bus service.
Even with a car, the roads are impassible, infested with pot holes
and deep ruts caused by the heavy rains each year. If Armando wanted
to go to this local school he would have to leave his house at 4:00
am in order to have enough time for the long walk to school. His
parents were desperate to find a solution to this problem and help
their son have an opportunity to continue his studies.
It was then that they heard about Hogar Infantil, and his father
paid a visit. The Patronato, or Mexican board of directors, made an
exception as they took into consideration all the circumstances and
knew that this was Armando’s only hope, so they decided to accept
him for this new school year. He and his parents were overjoyed.
Armando is a hard-working student and very motivated to do his best,
both at Hogar Infantil and in school. His favorite subject is music,
and his very favorite thing to do is to sing. Whenever there is a
party at Hogar Infantil all the kids beg him to sing a couple of
rancheras, the Mexican “cowboy songs”. He shyly walks up to center
stage, but once he begins his song, everyone is amazed at his strong
voice and the soul he puts into his songs. He is very thankful to be
at Hogar Infantil, because he knows that this and other dreams are
now much more attainable, and he intends to take full advantage of
the opportunities that come his way.
