HOW TO HELP

Hogar is operated family-style, with loving house parents who live with the children and treat them as their own.  Like a family, we must make and live within a budget.   In a typical month, Hogar's children eat their way through a ton of corn tortillas and 240 pounds of dried beans.  Our vegetable garden and pigs and chickens round out their diets, along with fruits and milk purchased in town.  Public school, even for primary children, costs an average of $150 per year per child, and even though higher education is inexpensive by U.S. standards, our total education budget exceeds $20,000 per year.

How You Can Help
Hogar Infantil is funded by private donations -- mostly from the U.S. -- and receives minimal government aid.  A volunteer U.S. board of directors maintains the 501(C)(3) tax exempt corporation north of the border, while the budget and operation in Mexico is overseen by a separate patronato  (board of directors) there.  A quarterly newsletter that focuses on life at Hogar Infantil  is the only active fundraising that we do outside this website.  Donations from the officers and directors of the U.S. board cover almost all of the expenses incurred in the United States.  Almost 100% of private donations go directly to support Hogar in Mexico.
